Aussie YA Challenge

The Aussie YA Challenge is a challenge created by Amy at Lost in a Good Book as an attempt to read more Australian young adult novels.

The #AussieYAChallenge was created from a desire to read more Australian young adult novels. There are so many great Aussie books out there but so often they can be pushed to the bottom of TBR piles or left undiscovered, or hidden behind other tantalising books. This challenge is an attempt to rectify that.

This is a challenge you complete at your own pace throughout the year, or whenever you chose to start. The challenge itself won’t have regularly monthly check ins, but rather you self-monitor your own challenge and share your thoughts using the #AussieYAChallenge hashtag so that everyone participating can enjoy.

Joining the challenge:

If you would like to partake in the Aussie YA Challenge simply comment below, link your blog post announcing your involvement to this page, or link your declaration post back here from whatever socials you’re proclaiming to.

Use the hashtag #AussieYAChallenge on all posts you make, it will help others discover it and is a great place to find new titles to read.

There is also an Aussie YA Challenge on StoryGraph, feel free to join that to help keep track of your journey.

What next?:

The first step is choosing what level you would like to aim for, there are four options or feel free to make one of your own.

Choose your level:

  • Binks: read 3 books
  • Marcetta: read 6 books
  • Marsden: read 9 books
  • Nix: read 12 books
  • Create your own challenge: nominate your own goal

How to succeed:

  • Follow the #AussieYAChallenge hashtag to see recommendations from other participants.
  • Follow the well-established #LoveOzYA hashtag across all social platforms to discover more titles.
  • Browse my reviews of Aussie YA for recommendations.
  • Download the challenge icon and header and use whenever possible to help spread the word.

Additional Resources:

There is a fantastic team dedicated to the support and promotion of all things Australian YA at the LoveOzYA website. The website has a range of great themes and bundles of book titles you can get suggestions from including a Reading Prompt list.

Goodreads has great lists of Aussie YA, both classic and new releases, and plenty of authors to choose from. Also if you join the challenge on The StoryGraph you will be able to see the books people have read or plan to read.

No matter what kind of book you’re after there is bound to be an Aussie YA out there to meet your needs.

Good luck and happy reading!

I’m in I had set a challenge of 24YA for 2024. I wasn’t limiting myself to OZYA. But aim for Nix Level with 1 OZYA each month.
