It is so hot in Australia right now and this Australia Day long weekend is no exception. With temperatures going to be 36 degrees (97F) all weekend at my place I have grand plans to do nothing except sit under a fan and read because anything besides that sounds like a lot of effort. I hope however you chose to spend today it is somewhere cool and enjoyable. We’ve got the new lamb ad to enjoy, but I actually haven’t bought a single lamington which in itself is a small disaster, but I am not going to make any or go out and buy some because obvious combustion will occur is I go outside. Instead, I will stick with my reading plan and maybe try to incorporate a Vegemite sandwich into my lunch.
Alongside this plan, I am also going to giveaway an awesome Aussie book which is much more interesting! The joy of having a blogiversary so close to Australia Day means that I will have two giveaways running so if you want some more variety, have a sticky beak over at my blogiversary post where I am running an international giveaway and maybe one of those will tickle your fancy.
Today though, in order to celebrate Australia Day and Aussie authors, I am giving away a copy of Jessica Townsend’s new book Wundersmith, the second book in her Nevermoor series.
Wunder is gathering in Nevermoor …
Morrigan Crow may have defeated her deadly curse, passed the dangerous trials and joined the mystical Wundrous Society, but her journey into Nevermoor and all its secrets has only just begun. And she is fast learning that not all magic is used for good.
Morrigan Crow has been invited to join the prestigious Wundrous Society, a place that promised her friendship, protection and belonging for life. She’s hoping for an education full of wunder, imagination and discovery – but all the Society want to teach her is how evil Wundersmiths are. And someone is blackmailing Morrigan’s unit, turning her last few loyal friends against her. Has Morrigan escaped from being the cursed child of Wintersea only to become the most hated figure in Nevermoor?
Worst of all, people have started to go missing. The fantastical city of Nevermoor, once a place of magic and safety, is now riddled with fear and suspicion…

Crack open a stubbie, grab a lammie, and pass around the Tim Tams, Australia Day is approaching once more. The time of year where we all become slightly more Australian than usual, celebrate this amazing country, and fill ourselves up with BBQ’d meats such as lamb, snags, or some other variety.
Along with the usual festivities, I’m also participating for the first time in the Australia Day Book Giveaway Blog Hop hosted by Shellyrae at Book’d Out. This is a wonderful event that helps to celebrate not only Aussie bloggers but Aussie authors as well. I wanted to join last year but lacked the confidence to dive in, this year I’m sticking my toes in and joining in on the fun. I’ve been a watcher for a while on other people’s blogs but one of my goals this year is to participate more on other blogs so this is a great start.
If you would like to visit other participants in the blog hop you can check out the list on Book’d Out. There are a range of giveaways running for a bunch of great prizes and you get a chance to discover or maybe even rediscover some awesome Aussie blogs and bloggers. And you never know, you may win some amazing prizes while you’re there!
On to the giveaway! Because it’s Australia Day it’s only right to give away a book by an Aussie, and an Aussie gal at that. I am offering up a paperback copy of Saving Francesca by the delightful Melina Marchetta. This is open to Australian residents only.
Francesca battles her mother, Mia, constantly over what’s best for her. All Francesca wants is her old friends and her old school, but instead Mia sends her to St. Sebastian’s, an all-boys’ school that has just opened its doors to girls. Now Francesca’s surrounded by hundreds of boys, with only a few other girls for company. All of them weirdos, or worse.
Then one day, Mia is too depressed to get out of bed. One day turns into months, and as her family begins to fall apart, Francesca realises that without her mother’s high spirits, she hardly knows who she is. But she doesn’t yet realise that she’s more like Mia than she thinks. With a little unlikely help from St. Sebastian’s, she just might be able to save her family, her friends, and – especially- herself.
