Book Bingo 2021

January is such a busy blogging time because it’s when I set up everything for the coming year and get all my challenges lined up. This time round it’s my Book Bingo. This year I have chosen a mix of old and new in my 25 categories. I have kept a lot from last year but I have also mixed up a few others.

I looked for inspiration at previous cards but I found that the ones I had on my 2017 and 2018 cards for example were things I were reading anyway. I no longer need Graphic Novel or Set in Australia as I tend to read them by default now. Having said that, I did revisit some old ones like Non-human MC to see what I could find to fit the box this time around. I also included some new ones like Anthology, Short Stories and two nonfiction options. I kept my favourites which are my Fairytale Retelling and the evergreen TBR and Reread because they are good broad options and because even though I will read them anyway, I love having it on my card.

So not a super change from last year really, I might try a trope one next year but I never know how that works so I might poke about and see if I get any idea through the year.

Do you use bingo cards to help with your reading? Do you like having broad categories or more specific tropes? As always feel free to download this card to use for your own bingo, or check out previous posts through the Book Bingo tag and see previous cards.

Book Bingo 2020

Making my bingo cards are a real joy because I get to think about my reading habits, genres I want to read and stories I want to read about. It is always a hard decision with what to include because when you start thinking about it there is a very deep rabbit hole you fall into. Based on others I have seen around I tried to do a tropes or a theme approach but I have never been good at those so I’ll stick with these for now. Maybe I’ll try for next year, or maybe do a much smaller side bingo of them.

With the goals and other reading challenges I have set myself this year I have tried to adapt my bingo accordingly. I also mixed it up based on some things I read last year in other challenges because I got to experience some great stories and want to actively try and read some more. I know there are a few ones on there that I keep adding each year because I am determined to do them. Fairytale retellings are one of my favourite things but I have had such a bad run reading any these last couple years so it’s back on so I can try once more. I think I need to get it out of my mind which ones I want to read and find a new, fresh story that I can break my drought with instead do thinking of all the ones I have been wanting to read and never do. As for reading a play, I am giving it one more chance before I stop putting it on there and admit I am not going to read any plays, even the ones I do want to actually read. I need to not make it a bingo option and maybe then, ironically, I will have more success. Aside from those two I am super keen to dive into this. I hope over the next 12 months I can find 25 wonderful and exciting books that I can tick off this list and expand my reading circle a lot more.

Book Bingo 2019

I love participating in Book Bingo, even if I keep forgetting sometimes. I love challenging myself to read a wide variety of books and styles. I could happily spend the year just reading YA and picture books (I probably will also do that), but this gives me a chance to discover so many new and wonderful authors and content.

For 2019 I’m looking at reading a variety of stories, voices, and genres I don’t explore that often. A lot of my choices are new or recent additions but there a few favourites because there are so many books out there I want to read I need to have a few reoccurring squares. I finally picked my last few squares so now I can start crossing them off. I don’t know if I will do a full card this year, but I will try for as many lines completed as I can.

Book Bingo 2018

This is my third year doing a book bingo challenge and despite the fact I often forget I’ve decided to do it, I enjoy it a lot. With 2018 underway it is another year and another chance to achieve bingo glory. As I stated in my Bingo 2017 wrap up post I’m keeping last year’s bingo card instead of making up a new one. I enjoyed the categories too much to not have another go at them this year. I am looking to get a full card this year as well. These are the kind of idealistic goals I have in January before the reality of life kicks in.

My second idealistic goal is actually doing updates through the year, unlike last year where I forgot entirely and basically posted my first post and then the final post. The third goal is to review them, but that is somewhat successful, but maybe more successful this year is also a goal.

Book Bingo 2017

BingoIt’s time again for another Book Bingo! Having gotten so close to finishing last year I’m looking forward to maybe completing the card this year, but even getting a line or two would be a great achievement.

I have chosen a range of categories this year, reusing some of the ones I didn’t complete last year, as well as the standard favourites. I am trying to diversify my reading this year so instead of just reading from another country or with a character of a difference sexual preference, I am adding in an author of a different ethnicity and expanding my previous LGBQT category to read more from each of the different voices. I’ve also switched up my genres and formats so it should be an interesting selection I find. I am aiming to provide updates on progress at the end of each month, and when I review a book for the bingo I will include the icon again too.
